CMY-Killa’ Schools You on Photoshop!

December 15th, 2010

Want to know how to get rid of red eye or spice up a church flier? Well look no further, this video has all the answers! Some of you may have heard of You Suck at Photoshop (YS@P), which by the way has a second season ready for the viewing? Well along those same lines, this “music video” is humorous and informative. A bit less helpful as a tutorial then YS@P, due to the rapid pace, though that does no stop this video from being a good laugh and well worth the time. College Humor certainly has done it again with this one! By the way, how awesome is the rapper name CMY-Killa’?? Check it out!!

Dolce and I-Wanna-My-Thigh-Back…

December 14th, 2010

Okay so this is Dolce and Gabbana, as in $30,000 for a handbag D&G… You would think when you are trying to market yourself as a super high end brand that you would not hire your five year old nephew to Photoshop the images that you are using in your newest perfume campaign. It is either that or this design genius failed high school anatomy class. Check out the placement of this anatomically unique scandalously clad female’s left leg (that would be her leg to your right)—see the enlarged image below to get a closer look. I must concede that the average person viewing this article not looking at dark space above this model’s leg, definitely not the eye catcher. That said, I am pretty sure that my intro to Photoshop students could do a better job with this image then this apparently overpaid and under skilled designer.

I always find these botched Photoshop jobs very amusing. If you have any real doozies that you know of or want to share, feel free to post them here.

Design Coffins, Not Such a Bad Way to Go…

December 12th, 2010

Believe it or not this friendly colorful sculpture is a coffin! This particular work of art was made by the design shop of the Ghanaian master carpenter Paa Joe (seen right). Paa Joe was an apprentice to Seth Kane Kwei, who is thought to be the inventor of African design/fantasy coffins back in the 50’s. This tradition seems to have grown from a delightful story of a loving son who want his mother to have the world. Kane Kwei’s mother had always dreamed of flying in a plane. Living as a poor woman in Teshie, in the suburbs of Accra in Ghana, she of course would never be able to afford such an expense. Here loving son however created for her a beautiful wooden airplane in which would carry her in her final journey. When she did pass, she was buried in the plane coffin Kane Kwei made for her. It is no surprise that the community fell in love with symbolic gesture and thus the tradition was born.

Minivans Never Seemed so Cool

December 11th, 2010

Swagger Wagon, is an ingeniously adverting campaign centered around the two gangsta-parents seen is this catchy hip hop video above. Aiming to make the least sexy and most “parent-esque” vehicle on the road (the minivan) seem more hip and fun, Toyota employed Saatchi & Saatchi LA to “get behind the wheel”. Marketing Toyota’s Sienna though the use of humor, these ads hit the spot and miraculously seem to make that mommy/daddy-wagon seem like a sexy gangsta beast, love it! Check out the Swagger Wagon YouTube Channel for more of the humorous videos and marketing.
